One major flaw is that the cord has an alligator clip instead of a banana plug where it attaches to the grounding connector

And if your projects center around electronics then you should also be using a grounding strap to prevent electrostatic discharge from zapping your components

The mat made in the usa is made of two layers of elastomer–the top layer is static dissipative rubber laminated to a conductive rubber layer

I did have to clean it of some manufacturing residue but that only took seconds with a rag picture with fingerprints

The backing material is also nice but harder to clean unfortunately
