I use it to change out my 10inch blades and though the teeth cut into the plastic a little it just adds traction it has not made the device any less useful

You could pretty easily make one of these by raising the blade into a 2x4 enough to create a slot i guess

I have always found that to be an awkward way to change the blade and it did not cover the blade
