Pros
The canister is very sturdy and i feel like it will last a very long time. I also purchased the smallest bare boxer canister i could get which is the smallest one approved for backpacking up there.
Opening the lid is straightforward and easy. The only bad mark is that on cold mornings the lid becomes more rigid. Resorted to filing down the locking nubs a tiny bit.
Just took my bearvault on a two-week trip down the john muir trail. Needed this to hike on the john muir trail, and it was worth not getting fined on the trail. This canister is superior to the park-provided canisters, which are much heavier.

The entire top of the unit cracked off when it was accidentally dropped waisthigh while in camp making it unusable for its intended use

In my opinion i cannot understand how a bearresistant canister cannot withstand a simple drop while in camp and remain resistant to bears

Given the reputation of bearvault the only reasonable conclusion that i can come to is that it was a freak occurrence on a unit that may not have been 100 up to bearvaults usual standards

What they discovered was that my unit did not meet their minimum specifications for wall thickness and should not have made it out of the factory
