If you dont the pump will be loud and the water flow will be inconsistent

Then you connect the pump to the tube on the bottom of the waterfall set

There is not an onoff switch which would make it easier if you need to turn the pump on and off

I put it togrther in under a minute there is only one led it also does not come with rocks

The one issue is the piece does not have an off button which makes turning it off difficult

Also the package didnt come with the rocks on the bottom like in the amazon picture

The photo is misleading from the manufacturer because the fountain does not come with rocks
