Pros

It is very primitive and satisfying way to start a campfire. The rod comes with a coating, once the coating is scraped off, it strikes every time; without fail. Rod is a good length to get a spark with a knife spine.

Not the best but very useable and fairly priced. Works like a charm! Better than many cheaper small copies from big box stores.

Save the cheapies for the grill at home. It is far longer (6), and larger in diameter (1/2), than other sellers on amazon, and it's about half the price. This larger rod is easy to hold and long lasting.

Ferro rod and a striker. Any hard, sharp material (metallic or not) works. Easy to keep the hacksaw blade with it though.

Took this on a 10 day tenting/camping road trip. One caveat, if you are a backpacker and weight is a big deal to you, this rod is somewhat heavy.

Cons

Minimal spark shower. Low heat production. Minimal wind, warm day. I was disappointed with its performance.
