Follow the instructions to lift the centre upwards then take each rail centre joint and at the same time as you pull the centre joint slightly upwards press the button that is on the underside of the joint upwards

You cannot use this without buying an extra mattress though but this is not a massive issue if the original mattress was good enough the cot would not fold neatly away so would not be travel size
