Pros & Cons
Pros
One salient thing about gottlieb is that he is a man of great, and many, enthusiasms. He presents a cast of hundreds--from kate hepburn to pauline kael to george balanchine and countless writers.
The life of an editor in the new york publishing world is fascinating and fun to read. The days when paperwork and management/bean counters was kept to a minimum, yielded high productivity given a passionate worker.
It's hard to quibble with a man in his eighties who writes this well about a professional career that spanned decades. I truly was engrossed in this man's full life. Hope for more to come.
Cons
Disappointing, boring name dropper. There is much gossiping which loses interest in the reader. Book could be more fluent in both writing and understanding the book.
