Pros & Cons
Pros
Cambridge a2 24-bit dac has better audio quality than audioengine d1. Audioengine also has a dac with a headphone jack but the question do you want a dac that has a headphonejack or one with more of a historical hi-end audio history?
The sound is crisp and clean. The highs and midrange are also really crisp. The soundstage is outstanding.
Easy to set up and connect via bluetooth. Built-in woofers and silk dome tweeters. Magnetic circuit board attaches to the tweeter.
Cons
What a disappointment and what a crummy product. I resent audioengine wasting my time with false advertising. Time is our most precious commodity, so beware this model.
The sound is very muddy. It's not rich or warm, it's also not boomy or bassy (which i would not want), it's not tight or crisp sound. The high range isn't crisp and the mid range is sometimes distorted.
Left speaker has a defect or may be the amplifier circuit is faulty. Having to connect and disconnect every night and every morning the speakers. I tried swapping out the dac, the tube, the inputs, etc and the common denominator is the a5 speakers.
