If you read one of those chilton repair manuals that make taking the old seal out as easy as if it were a simple traditional seal or oring forget that passage

That then necessitated taking it out as you will damage the seal

I even asked the transmission mechanic at the local dealership about it he said they never take that seal out unless you absolutely have to

The gasket isnt supposed to need sealant but the way they fold it up it wont lay flat
