Pros

Great flattening plate. Channels the * away with its surface design. Pet peeve is with some woodworkers who complain their flattening stone/plate is junk because it’s all clogged up.

It also works superbly at flattening my japanese water-stones. Works great for setting bevels, flattening waterstones/jnats, and raising slurries. Works as a lapping stone for my other water stones and does the job very efficiently.

The feel is ok when sharpening knives. It's more of a splash and go type of stone easily sharpen any dull knives.

The atoma 400 diamond plate is a good flattening plate for 500+ grit whetstones and can also serve as a coarse sharpening plate. The 400 is less aggressive and will wear away less of the stone.

Cons

The price is too good to be true because it's not true. Sent it back for a refund.

Pick up the atoma, a few passes over the stone, and it’s good to go, 30 seconds and the stone is ready.

Price

Lowest price i could find on this diamond plate.

Shipping

They cut fast and last a long time.

Packaging/appearance

I used this diamond plate to get the bevels and back back to flat and square and then moved to the whetstones.

I ordered in april from seller mt fujui japan and got the real deal in the full packaging.

I have a couple stones that clog the atoma quickly, and i have to stop and flush it thoroughly.

Competitiveness

This jis 400 grit plate was able to put a bevel on my benchmade bugout with 20cv steel in 5 minutes.

It is a tsuboman atoma diamond sharpener from japan with all writing and literature in japanese.

It worked fine with my stones shapton, recommended

I had been using a dmt stone for flattening, and like it also, but the dmt tends to lock onto the stone as soon as a slurry is created (after 5 or 6 passes) which makes it impossible to continue flattening without prying off the dmt and rinsing it and the stone.

That makes it hard to maintain the same angle of the edge to the stone throught the sharpening motion.
