These binoculars are super bright and i've been telling my friends i wish i could just have these mounted on my head 24/7. These athlon glasses are definitely up there with some of the best. Just the right field of view for birding.
Lightweight, though not at all flimsy, and includes a very sturdy carrying case with strap. They're light weight and have protective lens caps along with a sturdy ballistic nylon case. Bag is compact and provides padded support.
The 8x42 is the absolute best at damping internal reflections. The ed glass really helps with minimizing glare and ghost images. These are among the least pricey bins with ed glass on the market.
These are a very satisfying upgrade that didn't break the bank. Lifetime warranty through athlon. One relatively minor annoyance however.
The vortex is slightly thinner, feels like a more petite feel. My wife immediately glommed onto them--she loves them. The athlon has a slightly thicker feel than the vortex, and is more comfortable in my male hands.
Cons
Out of four pair, only one has been usable. The focus knob makes a unusual squelching noise when starting a focus. Is this a common occurrence in higher end binoculars?

Competitiveness
Easier to focus than other brands i’ve tried
And zeiss glass does have that extraordinary brilliance so i get that each brand has its strengths
I want to note that athlon and vortex have very similar warranties materials and are both made in china
Athlon lists this as a discontinued version since the newer g2 version of the midas came out
