Pros & Cons
Cons
This book is shameless cash grab riding on the coattails of the martini. The story is okay. One chapter is basically just about welding. The nerdy stuff about welding?
This book contains not one modicum of character development. The plot is boring and unexciting. Boring, filled with too much scientific speculation and spiritual pontification.
I was disappointed with artemis for several reasons. Artemis is depicted as being a rather dreadful place. Lunar/earth transports go completely unregulated, and *gasp! But artemis is not very good.
Andy weir has no idea how to write women. The pov is that of a 26 y/o female; a gender and age which andy weir obviously knows nothing about. Weir also put his own economic and political views into the setting which is really just obnoxious.
This novel is horrifically bad. the gizmo communicator that is used (obviously nothing more than an iwatch) still needs to be plugged in to recharge.
Highlights
Quality
I was particularly impressed with the authors capacity using a female narrator since his other narrators are all male
I started with the martian and then discovered project hail mary which i felt was andys best
Nothing wrong with the written word when that impression is never far from compelling you to dive back in to the saga as soon as possible
Packaging/appearance
I liked the way pen pal emails were woven through the action
Competitiveness
I enjoy the science and technology woven into wifes stories
