The diameter is 5-1/2 from rim to rim. This strainer is just right for rinsing small grains and seed like quinoa or brocolli seeds.

Strainers have a handle, which makes them easy to hold and maneuver. The mesh part is also sturdy but flexible. The handle is very securely fastened and the whole thing is well made.

Stainless steel strainer is not flimsy at all and won't rust. It is stamped sus 304, so it should never rust. They are well-made, easy to use, and dishwasher safe.

My main purpose for this strainer is rinsing quinoa which must be done before cooking to remove the saponin its natural bitter coating
