A couple tips i may be imagining it but it seemed to find the channels easier with the antenna outside and then it worked just fine with the antenna indoors

I bent a wire under the antenna and then bent it forward for 4 inches and then up about 4 inches

They were not placed close to a window or mounted high on the ceiling either of which would probably result in more channels being received
