Pros & Cons
Pros
The author creates a soup mix of wonderment, mystery and foreboding to keep me turning the pages. I really only have one gripe about this book and it kind of bothers me that it is a gripe that i have because it fits the story.
Annihilation by jeff vandermeer is technically the start of a trilogy, but it also works as a stand alone noble. One of my favorite sci-fi novels of all time.
The tactics of effective storytelling are well-known. These stories create oversize worlds that promote many interpretative possibilities. I think the only thing that the slower pacing didn't help tooo much is that i found myself often forgetting why ... Read More
Gradual mystery and creepiness in every chapter. While it is unnerving the uncanny isn't exactly monstrous. What a delightfully weird little book.
Cons
I read for enjoyment, and for me this just wasn't enjoyable. The setting is murky and unclear, with a sense of menace built upon mysteries that grows unpleasant rather than engaging.

I saw the film by alex garland a while back and i thought it was visually stunning but it suffered from jumbled and confused storytelling and this made the whole film experience just ‘meh’

After reading an interview with garland who pretentiously claims to have moved on from the story even though there were 2 more books in the series i thought to just read up on the source material
