Positive Review

The font is electra and nobel, and my disappointment in searching 3x is not finding any notes about the quality of the paper.

Neutral Review

I had a similar experience with the volokhonsky translation but i have to admit that schwartz’s translation makes for an easier read.

If the craftsmanship of the hardcover is so dismal, you may as well save yourself the money and get the paperback edition.

I love this new translation, which is supposedly more like real-life russian, instead of trying to make the language used by tolstoy more 'literary formal'.

There are numerous translations and editions of leo tolstoy's novel anna karenina available in english.

This review compares three good ones:  anna karenina (the margellos world republic of letters)  translated by marian schwartz,  anna karenina (oprah's book club) (penguin classics deluxe)  translated by richard pevear and larissa volokhonsky, and  anna karenina (everyman's library) by leo tolstoy (1992) hardcover  translated by louise and aylmer maude.

Both the maudes and schwartz translate the famous opening line of the novel as: all happy families resemble one another; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

The pevear and volokhonsky translation has: all happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

The review copy i received ( anna karenina (the margellos world republic of letters)  had a broken binding.

I wanted to re-read it, and i thought new translations were the ideal excuse for doing so.
