    Strangely the box containing these bulbs has a picture of a bulb with a screw cap which initially made me think i had been sent the wrong bulbs

    Technology definitely seems to have moved on apace and in the product information these claim to be ‘a’ energy efficiency rated and last for 35000 hours too – that’s appreciably cheaper to run and with a significantly longer life which as a committed recycler is a bonus meaning less material ends up as rubbish

    The packaging is slightly confusing – two opposite sides of the box show us edison™ style bulbs in the large e27 and small e14 screw thread respectively

    The packaging carries the eu’s “ce” mark confirming conformity with many standards such as the low voltage directive the energy related products directive and the electromagnetic compatibility directive amongst others but not the uk ‘rohs’ restriction of hazardous substances act mark covering electrical and electronic equipment

    What the packaging or product information additionally doesn’t state however is whether the bulbs contain mercury which is a heavy metal that might leech into the ground when disposed of and indeed the packaging shows the crossed out wheely bin symbol showing it should be disposed of at a waste recycling centre correctly rather than thrown in the kerbside collection

    With a maximum rating of 100 this signifies that colours will appear almost the same as in natural daylight and with no ‘flickering’ either which can be an issue with some led bulbs
