Pros & Cons
Pros
Overall, the value it delivers is unmatchable. Works like a champ and the missus has her insta back.
Cons
We are on the brink of returning the unit; if it does not settle down soon. Pennywise and dollar foolish.
Both the inner guts and the external hookups belong on the scrap heap. When a metal compression coupling is installed like the one on the outlet of the tank, the nut and the ring are not removable. Yes, difficult to install and definitely not dependab... Read More
Rubber o-ring became hardened from the heat. Makes the noises but water only gets tepid. Then water starts leaking out the bottom of the cabinet on the floor and you realize omigod the whole cabinet bottom is soaked.
Water doesn't boil even at 190f. The heater will become useless rapidly as it ages.
Highlights
Quality
Replaced an old one with the same brand
I have had this brand of 34instant hot34 for 22 years i just replaced with the same brand and couldnt be happier
It looks exactly the same with the same specs for 12 the price
These hot water heaters are put together with better quality materials and last years longer
Price
Not easy to install but still worth the cost
Packaging/appearance
And for those that have commentedcomplained on the spurtingleaking
And when they 34go34 they usually seem to just start leaking out of the bottom
Our faucet is over the sink so that’s not a big deal it just goes down the drain
Competitiveness
Got to replace my leaking insinkerator tank
Our insinkerator units have each lasted about 5 years before failing
It has shortened life on more expensive models but not this brand
Before buying ah1300 i used to get another national brand

It is a nonpressurized vessel more like a pot of water than your shower

When you turn on the faucet it is actually letting cold water into the tank and the hot water is forced out to the tap
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
When the cold water eventually heats up it expands somewhat and the extra volume drips out of the faucet so the pressure wont build and burst the tubing

The alternative is to get a pointofuse water heater such as a rheem or a bosch which is plumbed into your hot water feed line for your faucet but those arent meant to get to near boiling temps and or for ro systems

Of course i had to take apart the old unit to see what had failed

In our case the tank heating element and controls were all still in working condition the leak was coming from a corroded pinch clamp on a rubber hose connection
