I just got this a week ago to try to get my cat to drink more he loves to drink from the faucet but obviously you can’t have the faucet run constantly

The water goes through the fountain into the smaller bowl then has to go through the filter before falling back into the large bowl and going through the fountain again

The only downside is that if you had a power outage the water would be trapped in the bottom of the fountain and cats would not have access

It was a nice product that the cats loved until the pump failed yesterday after only 3 months of operation

After checking the online info i disassembled the pump to remove the rotor not obvious how to do this unless you look at the detailed images in the amazon description and cleaned it off
