I bought one of these kits many years ago for a 2000 montero and just dove in eyeballing and cutting all the wrong tabs off

If you use a pair of snips or side cutters wear some eye protection as when the tabs are clipped they fly off with some velocity

Snip them about a third of the way and then just bend them off

The instructions also say that you need to trim off a number of tabs and leave four of them two on top and two on bottom

I tried using diagonal cuts but they did not get close enough
