It's not too complicated, but it's satisfying for an experienced gamer. Good combination of difficulty ranges to suit novice to experienced players.
The family game is a good starter, but then the advanced decks keep the replay value high. There are many cards and a few are dealt at random to each player, so that the game is different on each occasion.
Agricola is a game about subsistence farming in the 1700's. There is a harvest after every few rounds and one of the main catches is that you have to feed all of your family members every harvest.
It's perfectly playable with 1,2,3,4 or 5 players which is quite an achievement of game balancing. Each version plays differently due to the differing levels of resources.

Cons
Tried on about 4 occasions to try and figure out how on earth to play this. Ended up giving it away to friends. No it ruddy isn't. Our advice is to play with other people first before buying.

In advanced play there is a random factor introduced and that is advancement cards but the main play does not use any random element which is important for german games
