Your ears will still be hearing all the external sounds like traffic so there are times the headphones get drowned out but id rather that than get flattened by a lorry whilst listening to something quiet but oblivious to whats around

And the reason i didnt give it 5 star is if your like me and you like your music enough to care about quality then the 90 lack of base will upset you its a very tinny sound

They are not 5 stars for a few reasons i have quite a large head and they just fit sometimes slipping off my temples to cover my ears

Also the mic for making phone calls does work in quieter areas however if you are going down a busy road you wont be able to effectively make a call
