The battery backup works like this insert batteries and electrical cord if by some chance the power goes out the clock will not show anything but it will remember everything when the power goes back on itll go back to normal

It also serves as a night light from its brightness for someone having difficulties sleeping in a semilit room you might want to consider red or blue color digits

The clock is also standable if thats what you prefer but i wanted this wall mounted

As you can see from the photo the numbers are pretty bright
