Since the quill can have a lot of stress on it it is best not to do this on an off road bike where there would be lots of shock and extra stress on the quill screw

Because i am completely upright there is almost no weight on the stem

The longer the stem the more stress can be put on the part of the quill inside the bike

I have an older bike and was having trouble finding a way to raise the handle bars without completely removing the handlebars and the local bike shop did not have this part
