While not his 'best' book (in my opinion) it is still fantastic. Bill Bryson writes in such a way as you feel as if you are sitting by a campfire with him, toasting marshmallows, or in the pub having a few drinks. He speaks to the everyman and with a rapier like wit that appeals to Bristish sensibilities ( rather damning on the US though, but very funny and totally believable) . What I also love about Bill's books, and this one in particular, is that he presents you with knowledge in a passionate way, teaches you about things you didn't even know you would be interested in, and infects you with a new found passion for them. If you like travel, culture, nature and humour then this is a must, as are all of his other books!  Read Less
