Puritan preaching wooed the heart passionately. Though the puritans sought to purify the church it is clear that the key is the purifying of hearts.

A look into the past, that is missed so much in todays church. They can teach us how to live a disciplined life to god's glory without falling into dead orthodoxy or deadly legalism.

There are eight sections to the book which cover the ten traditional headings of theology from prolegomena to eschatology. Includes chapters on the holy spirit, benefits of salvation such as justification and adoption and perseverance.

The section on christology was amazingly and beautifully written and thought out. It's also an easy read and understandable.



Cons

The weakness of this work is that it does not attempt to challenge the reformed status quo by examining the artificial covenantal formulations of the puritans.
