Pros & Cons
Pros
I was captivated and had a hard time puttting the book down once started. But be patient. This man is stunningly brilliant! Hold on and read until the end and then read the author interview. I'm still in tears at the book's end, which grieves as hard ... Read More

Cons
The book is a total disappointment! This is one of the slowest books i have ever read. One of the few books that i can call forgettable.
Owen meany comes off as an angry, rude, kid. Nothing like the obnoxiously funny, and cute character portrayed in the movie. The main character that narrates the story - johnny wheelwright - is boring.
Other reviews indicate slogging through will reap a reward. It's just that it's boring and tedious to read. Those are like detours that take you too far off the main path - and they are boring.
It's hard to sustain suspense or interest for 600 pages. Irving's pretentious face was giant-sized on my edition of this book, proclaiming, i am a wri-tor!

However there were also scenes in which that attention to detail felt interminable and ended up annoying me like a guest at a dinner party who could tell a rousing story that charms and amuses the audience but then launches into an overly detailed and explained diatribe that certainly shows the others how much he knows and has researched but is the equivalent of a dreaded droning lecture that has people squirming in their seats
