This charger gets confused if batteries really are flat.

If that doesn't do the trick, the battery probably is clapped out.

Best practice is to run a break in cycle on them (slow charge/discharge/charge), something this charger isn't able to do, but it should work itself out after a few charge cycles anyway.

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

For old, low capacity batteries (eg, aaa nicd) the minimum charge current is a bit high and they probably won't charge properly (the charger will declare them full after just a few seconds).

If you want to routinely use fast charge, its a (very) minor hassle programming the charge current (has to be manually chosen every time).

Nimhs should be charged at about 1/2 the rated capacity in ma (eg, for an 1000mah cell, charge at 500ma).

Between 1/3 and 1/1 is ok; slower is not harmful in itself, but risks the charger missing the signal that the sell is fully charged - the resulting overcharge is harmful.

However, it did let them get back to their full capacity.
