Both of these knives are very deserving for holding top praise for large folders in my collection. As another reviewer said, this is the trademark knife in which all knives should be judged by. This is the finest folder i have ever held.

I am a police officer,use of force instructor and harbormaster who uses a knife daily. It is an excellently crafted folding knife. Clip placement is great for accessibility, without giving too much of a snag factor.

The axis lock is better than the military's liner lock. It rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The axis lock is the best feature on the knife for sure very secure and trustworthy.

The bevel is straight and the edge is sharp. Steel is durable and has yet to be sharpened. Used it to cut everything from oranges to shaving off many paper gaskets.

Cons

The open is quite smooth and it does lock well, but the spring of the axis prevents a smooth close. After the second cleaning, there were spots of rust along the blade at the cutting edge and the back. Still trying to correspond with benchmade.

Top tier quality at a decent price

If you need a larger quality pocket knife you cant go wrong with the bm 710

So thumb stud opening is a hassle and a bit painful if you like to sit around and play with the knife

The main concern ive found is how the pivot gets loose with the frequent opening and closing this knife goes through

I can get it out and open just as fast as my bm581 and that is assisted opening

Im a little surprised that benchmade doesnt qc every single knife with something better that what they are using now before shipping

Packaging/appearance

Razor sharp right out of the box

Mechanicaly solid and sharp out of the box

The 710 has smoother g10 scales than my spyderco mili and the jimping on the benchmade 710 is really more for show than grip

Competitiveness

I have a spyderco domino that i edc every day and now it shares time with this well made beauty

The knife arrived on time and was all i expected in a benchmade product

But only few benchmade models really appeal to me

Ive owned several benchmade knives since about y2k so no way to justify this as a needed purchase
