The dual end wired units can sometimes be used without disconnecting the ballast but the ballast wastes energy so its better removed from the circuit

If you are replacing t8 1 lamps then you need dual end wired led lamps because the socket contacts are usually shunted shorted together

The contact spacing on the t12 and t8 lamps is the same

If you are unsure just check the leads with an ohmmeter on a tombstone that is not connected to any wiring
