    It turns on when you move the caliper and off when you put it back to the original closed position and leave it alone

    As a wildlife biologist i use these calipers for performing body measurements on amphibians reptiles and though the the metal tips on others are great for mechanical uses and longevity i found it unsafe and uncomfortable for the specimensas the cool or hot metal depending upon the weather would cause slight shock upon contact

    Plus the nonmetal tips allow some level of give upon contact if the specimen happened to apply force onto them
