I purchased this for use in machine embroidery especially for making free standing lace designs and ornaments. Using this tape has enabled me to conserve the amount of the expensive wash-away mesh stabilizer normally used by regular hooping enough for the whole project each time. I have been making a 'frame' from 2 layers of heavyweight cutaway stabilizer for the hoop itself-SECURELY TIGHTEN THESE LAYERS IN THE HOOP! You now cut an opening in the center of these hooped cutaway pieces that will be slightly larger than the design itself. (ie Design is 3 by 4 cut out at least a 3 3/4 x 4 3/4 opening) . TEST NOW BEFORE PROCEDING by placing your hooped cut-away hooped base onto the machine with the design loaded and ready to stitch out, and check the placement to be sure your design is within the cut-out area-you don't want your design to stitch into the 'frame' itself.) Remove the hooped 'frame' from the machine once you are sure the opening is correct. Place the hooped 'frame' on a firm flat surface and place strips of this 1/4 wash-away tape completely around the outer edge of the hooped & trimmed cutaway. * Then you will only need 1-2 pieces of the wash-away stabilizer (which is what you sew on) cut to about 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 to be secured by the tape. The number of stitches in the design determines the amount of wash-away to be needed. If it is an intensive stitch count, I will also then baste the wash-away down to help eliminate the push/pull stress of the stitching and having it possibly lift off the tape - (most of my designs are 4x6 and about 40,000 sts). When design has finished stitching out, remove basting stitches, GENTLY LIFT the sewn design and wash-away stabilizer off of the tape.* DON'T REMOVE THE CUT-AWAY 'FRAME' FROM THE HOOP! Set your now empty 'frame' down and repeat the process above *-*, and you are ready to stitch another one again. I have found I need to replace the tape after every 3-4th stitch out. Quicker, easier, and much less expensive than traditional hooping only the washable stabilizers. ///Machine embroidery is not the only use of this great tape. It is so useful in SO many sewing techniques: installing zippers; applique; repair work mending; couching; hemming; pleats; keeping plaids and stripes in place while stitching seams; and the list goes on and on. Try this tape. You will love it. AND it is more economical than the small packages you find at a fabric shop, and it seems to work just as well if not better.  Read Less
