We inflated the letters with a bike pump and needle and a capri sun straw not the sharp side or it will puncture your baloon

You could also inflate separate helium filled mylar or latex balloons and put the puffs at the end of the string so that they float in the air a plastic invisible string would make it look like they are floating on their own

That was the plan for our party but the roof in our party room was not flat and therefore it did not work in our case
