It is hard plastic and has to be pushed out with 2 thumbs or fingers

I love how easy they are to clean i hand wash mine even though it says dishwasher safe because the dishwasher is hard on the color coating the slide mechanism can be taken out easily and the seal slips off and on with no trouble
