An actual beacon for safety vehicles uses a halogen style bulb, not a regular incandescent. People that are complaining about the it's a $20 light. Outside (on the top) it shines bright enough so people know to move or yield to you.

The entire base is not magnetic, only the center part is what it hold to the car. The solder is not good- because it will shut off if the cord is bent even slightly. Cord is way to short to reach the roof and cigarette lighter.
