These are really hold-open arms with a friction dampener. We usually associate soft close with an air- or spring- damped hinge. The hinge works perfectly for our needs.

There is tension but it is not intended to close a heavy lid slowly. It soft closes 75% of the way and slams hard the last 25%. Now my chest lid has holes in it, and still doesn't soft close.

None of the brackets are assembled in the same manner. The angles of the bracket insure poor alignment. Installation instructions are small diagrams with dimensions.

Adjustments made with the turn-knob on the rear actually do work on the 8 i've used so far. Put these soft closers on our kitchen cabinets & bathroom cabinets. Made a huge difference in noise from the kitchen.

The adjustable screw at the back sets the tension for the closure. It does add some extra hardware inside of the cabinet which isnt ideal but considering the ease of install and the price compared to replacing this many hinges, it's well worth the sma...  Read More

The metal case is solid. The adjustable plunger in the rear is plastic, but thick and threads smoothly when adjusting.
