These are really hold-open arms with a friction dampener. We usually associate soft close with an air- or spring- damped hinge. The hinge works perfectly for our needs.
There is tension but it is not intended to close a heavy lid slowly. It soft closes 75% of the way and slams hard the last 25%. Now my chest lid has holes in it, and still doesn't soft close.
None of the brackets are assembled in the same manner. The angles of the bracket insure poor alignment. Installation instructions are small diagrams with dimensions.

These hinges fit the existing rounded inset in the door and its frame perfectly. The quality rivals any solid metal door hinge and seems like they are built to last. This closes the door without a slam.
