The square tiles seem to be real wood. The pieces are sturdy and feel great in your hand. The set comes in a nice wooden box that serves as the field.

The magnetism is strong enough to hold the pieces without being so powerful that they snap into place. The gold latches work well and the inside of the board has a clever holding system that makes them secure, not rolling around getting scratched.

The board is attractive; hinges and clasps appear to be well constructed. The board has real wooden veneer over a magnetic surface. The box/board is well assembled and lies flat on the table.

the board came with a significant scratch, the instruction manual has a mistake of positions of king and queen. Some figures are are uneven and crooked. The pads at the bottom have glue that has dried over the pad.
