2018nnAfter looking into many of the historic hotels in the area and after reading the book Grand Hotels Of Egypt Egypt In The Golden Age Of Travel I realized that most of the old hotels I had dreamed of visiting during our stay had all been torn down or renovated past the point of recognition with the exception of the WindsornnYes the hotel is old yes its a bit rough around the edges and has seen some better days Most of the lights in the main hallways were burnout the beds are quite firm and you might as well be sleeping in a tent with the way the street sounds travels through the wallsnnThat said the hotel is essentially a time capsule It has so much charm and character and it was amazing to get to stay somewhere during our trip that really felt like you had the opportunity to travel back in time and wasnt so updated that it lost its sense of history and heritagennThe location cant really be beat either as it is within walking distance to the Egyptian Museum and many other sites in the city We especially loved the little bakery that is just around the corner from the hotelnnThe breakfast provided is simple but homemade and delicious and changes each daynnThe barrel bar was adorable and a great place to sit each evening and drink a cup of tea and relax after a long day of site seeingnnMy only real complaint was the construction going on outside during out stay While I had read there was construction outside the hotel going on before our trip I mistakingly believed it would happen during normal hours of the day when we would be away from the hotel anyway However the construction and by construction I mean jackhammers going nonstop would begin around midnight and continue through the evening until about 4 or 5am in the morning right outside our window EVERY SINGLE NIGHT My poor husband almost lost his mind due to lack of sleep from the noise and we seriously considered moving to a different hotelnnWe thought about asking for a room on the other side of the hotel but after speaking with another guest at breakfast who had switched rooms for that very reason and said it hadnt really made much of a difference we decided to just tough it out making good use of our noise canceling headphonesnnThat said we would 100 stay here again but maybe after construction has been
