We had an oceanfront, and the term oceanfront doesn't even come close. You can't get any closer without being in the water. The swaying palm trees right outside our 3rd floor room was picture perfect with the ocean as a backdrop, gorgeous! And the rainbow framing the palm trees and ocean one day was an amazing photo op. The hotel grounds were just right for us, on the smaller scale, more intimate. No big mega resort for us this was just what we were looking for. \n\nOur oceanfront room was the perfect size, not huge but sufficient. Nice touches upon our arrival, we were surprised with a split of champagne, macadamia nuts and a bottle of chardonnay. Not sure if everyone receives that but we enjoyed all our goodies! The complimentary water every morning and evening was an added bonus, 4 bottles total a day so no need to buy any for our hikes. We enjoyed sitting on our lanai both morning and evening just staring out at the ocean and watching the surfers. Be aware the lanai's are not totally private, so when our neighbors were out there we could see and hear them. Luckily for us everyone respected each others privacy so no big deal. I do think that some of the furniture could use a touch up, nothing major but starting to look a little worn. Also drawer space was at a premium, my husband had to live out of his suitcase for the week. And a rather weird thing was there were 2 bathroom lights, one would lite the entire bedroom portion of the room, there was a sort of cutout above the wall where the bathroom is and the lighted candles (mood lighting I imagine) illuminated both the bathroom and main room so not ideal if someone goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night.\n\nThe grounds were immaculate. Be aware there is not true beach directly in front of hotel. You have to walk either to the left or right, not a big deal for us but some might not like to have to trek a short walk to sit on the beach. There are lounges on the lawn area, which at first seemed weird to us but we actually enjoyed using them one afternoon. The pool was nice and plenty of loungers around it. There is an outside tiki bar and our favorite were the 2 fire pits. We made it our nightly ritual before going out to dinner to enjoy drinks sitting around the fire pit. We met a lot of interesting people and had some good laughs with our new found friends. Every person we came in contact that worked at Koa Kea were friendly and professional at all times. The valet attendants were great, car always ready when we needed it. You also have to valet, no self parking. \n\nYes, expensive but totally worth it. Skip the mega resorts and enjoy a relaxing, peaceful hotel experience here.","review_rating":5.0,"sentiment_class":"positive","sentiment_result":0.8336582703333332,"sentiment_breakdown":[["If you want a hotel with the ocean basically lapping at your room this is it.",["unknown",0.73218536]],["We had an oceanfront, and the term oceanfront doesn't even come close.",["negative",0.09594164]],["You can't get any closer without being in the water.",["unknown",0.5888263]],["The swaying palm trees right outside our 3rd floor room was picture perfect with the ocean as a backdrop, gorgeous!",["positive",0.90481055]],["And the rainbow framing the palm trees and ocean one day was an amazing photo op.",["positive",0.9547226]],["The hotel grounds were just right for us, on the smaller scale, more intimate.",["positive",0.9332562]],["No big mega resort for us this was just what we were looking for.",["positive",0.9362588]],["Our oceanfront room was the perfect size, not huge but sufficient.",["positive",0.9724357]],["Nice touches upon our arrival, we were surprised with a split of champagne, macadamia nuts and a bottle of chardonnay.",["positive",0.93385744]],["Not sure if everyone receives that but we enjoyed all our goodies!",["positive",0.81288975]],["The complimentary water every morning and evening was an added bonus, 4 bottles total a day so no need to buy any for our hikes.",["positive",0.98479664]],["We enjoyed sitting on our lanai both morning and evening just staring out at the ocean and watching the surfers.",["positive",0.904869]],["Be aware the lanai's are not totally private, so when our neighbors were out there we could see and hear them.",["unknown",0.69729346]],["Luckily for us everyone respected each others privacy so no big deal.",["unknown",0.6366889]],["I do think that some of the furniture could use a touch up, nothing major but starting to look a little worn.",["unknown",0.7817187]],["Also drawer space was at a premium, my husband had to live out of his suitcase for the week.",["positive",0.9123163]],["And a rather weird thing was there were 2 bathroom lights, one would lite the entire bedroom portion of the room, there was a sort of cutout above the wall where the bathroom is and the lighted candles (mood lighting I imagine) illuminated both the bathroom and main room so not ideal if someone goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night.",["positive",0.98541474]],["The grounds were immaculate.",["unknown",0.7800023]],["Be aware there is not true beach directly in front of hotel.",["positive",0.81885165]],["You have to walk either to the left or right, not a big deal for us but some might not like to have to trek a short walk to sit on the beach.",["positive",0.89302623]],["There are lounges on the lawn area, which at first seemed weird to us but we actually enjoyed using them one afternoon.",["positive",0.9731746]],["The pool was nice and plenty of loungers around it.",["positive",0.958954]],["There is an outside tiki bar and our favorite were the 2 fire pits.",["positive",0.9055205]],["We made it our nightly ritual before going out to dinner to enjoy drinks sitting around the fire pit.",["positive",0.962117]],["We met a lot of interesting people and had some good laughs with our new found friends.",["positive",0.95118725]],["Every person we came in contact that worked at Koa Kea were friendly and professional at all times.",["unknown",0.4719022]],["The valet attendants were great, car always ready when we needed it.",["positive",0.9810931]],["You also have to valet, no self parking.",["unknown",0.6705786]],["Yes, expensive but totally worth it.",["positive",0.9816155]],["Skip the mega resorts and enjoy a relaxing, peaceful hotel experience here.",["positive",0.8934431]]],"reviewer_fake_points":-45}

The resort is beautiful and low-key in the very best way, but the people who work there foster a wonderful community vibe. It's not a huge property so there's not the same stress about getting a pool chair or space to enjoy the amenities. If you're leaving the property and a team member asks you where you're going, tell them - they all have great tips or can steer you in the right direction based on what you're looking for. We loved the boutique feel of the Ko'a Kea as well as the 5 star service we received and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quieter boutique hotel with great service.\n\nWhen we were deciding between this hotel and the Hyatt, we went with this one and certainly believe we made the right choice. I can't say anything bad about the Hyatt because we didn't stay there but we did stay at the one in Maui and although we did receive a solid 4 star experience there, the Ko'a Kea is definitely a cut above. \n\nThe Ko'a Kea is NOT your typical Hawaiian big resort, seems to celebrate that it is NOT, and should be recognized for NOT being that. The staff and management really does seem to sincerely care about their guests which is not something you find everywhere (hardly anywhere actually). Even 5 star hotels don't have turn down service and reception events hosted by the general manager to introduce their staff, which the Ko'a Kea does.\n\nIt is hard to find a great hotel in Hawaii that is not your typical big resort and this place is that something special.","review_rating":5.0,"sentiment_class":"positive","sentiment_result":0.8981839,"sentiment_breakdown":[["My wife and I stayed at the Ko'a Kea for 4 nights while on Kauai for our honeymoon.",["positive",0.9725195]],["We loved the boutique feel of the Ko'a Kea as well as the 5 star service we received and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quieter boutique hotel with great service.",["positive",0.98887616]],["When we were deciding between this hotel and the Hyatt, we went with this one and certainly believe we made the right choice.",["positive",0.9530068]],["I can't say anything bad about the Hyatt because we didn't stay there but we did stay at the one in Maui and although we did receive a solid 4 star experience there, the Ko'a Kea is definitely a cut above.",["positive",0.9208597]],["The Ko'a Kea is NOT your typical Hawaiian big resort, seems to celebrate that it is NOT, and should be recognized for NOT being that.",["unknown",0.70109427]],["The staff and management really does seem to sincerely care about their guests which is not something you find everywhere (hardly anywhere actually).",["positive",0.87808603]],["Even 5 star hotels don't have turn down service and reception events hosted by the general manager to introduce their staff, which the Ko'a Kea does.",["positive",0.8530923]],["It is hard to find a great hotel in Hawaii that is not your typical big resort and this place is that something special.",["positive",0.91793644]]],"reviewer_fake_points":-20}
