Ayla is an astounding practitioner and a lovely human. I saw her out of the blue as an emergency visit with a low back and hip pain driving me nuts. The space itself reminds me of spaces difficult to find in New York now - a huge, high ceiling loft with beautiful Southeast Asian carved wood decor and inviting upholstered couches with floor to ceiling windows in the reception area, and hot tea or filtered water waiting for you. I was brought back to the treatment rooms, which are understandably smaller but not cramped, painted in dark, warm colors, and with the slightly medicinal scent of mugwort mixed with something citrusy. Due to my pain, I was stiff and somewhat needy, and Ayla, a former dancer and Pilates enthusiast with a lithe, petite build that matches those interests, worked with me to accommodate my large body and make the treatment table work for me. It was an empathetic compassion that's rare to find in the medical and paramedical community, and much appreciated. NOTE TO THOSE IN THE HAES/ BODY ACCEPTANCE MOVEMENT: the tables are quite wide, and you won't have to work past sneering bias with Ayla. She's already woke.Onto the treatment. I am a skeptic when it comes to the language surrounding acupuncture and its miraculous claims, but I do believe that dry needle stimulation and rerouting inflammation modalities works. And it really, really did. My piriformis, which was in a death grip on my sciatic nerve, let go during that session quite dramatically, as did a complimentary Charlie horse in my calf that had been there for 5 years. She also did cupping and a light massage on my low back, moving the cups around, which ended up leaving very little bruising. The next day or so, Ayla called me to see how I was feeling, and I assessed that my muscles had experienced the relief hoped for from the treatment, and that I had to consciously remind them not to clench again. She explained that muscles need to be retrained, but that's part of the course of treatment, so it's not a miracle but a way of working with the body's own strengths. I made my follow up visit then and there.Ayla is very professional and extremely knowledgable, compassionate and friendly, has a very light touch with both needles and cups, and knows just where to treat you. I need to book my next session now. Read Less
