Pros & Cons
Pros
The parts are clean and well machined. Both of these were easily rectified with some sandpaper after assembly. Good for a dyi project.
The wen has the cast iron base while the hf has a steel base. Cast iron is heavier and when turned on felt more stable and probably a little more accurate when drilling. Just remember to wipe any oil off the shaft before friction-fitting the chuck to ... Read More
Once started, no problems. No wobble. Purrs like a kitten.
Cons
Disassembly for shipping was a pain. Probably will be shipping this thing back.
The level of concentricity (runout) with this drill is worse than my china built craf--man. It bogs down on the simplest drilling jobs. The depth gauge is also a joke.
Spindle locks up while the motor is still rotating.
It's almost 1/4 off diagonally and rocks back and forth. Edge of table adjustment knob has metal shards sticking out which are extremely sharp. The table flexes with only light pressure yielding oblong holes.

Number one problem for me is that the platform is poorly designed and actually flexes when i am simply drilling a 10 hole in a block of 2024 aluminum

I also tried to do a little surfacing with a small end mill as well but there was too much movement of the platform

Ive had this drill for a couple of weeks worked on 30 mild steel plates38 thick drilled four 12 holes on each so 120 holes total

Half way the job the chuck stopped moving although the pulley on top was spinning
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
Took the pulley appart and found out the oppressor screw was loose no big deal for me but im not sure if someone will find this a problem
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
It produces a lot of unnecesary heat

Also the procedure to change speed is very rudimentary you have to change the belt from one pulley to another i can see someone getting hurt by doing that

Works but still small should have went with next size up
