Pros

The part that resonated the most with me is how victims of cons often fall for a scam because of a shared predilection of all humans — our love of stories. Konnikova explains why humans are fooled by what seems to those on the outside as obvious scams...  Read More

Mk uses both practical and theoretical scenarios to inform the reader of how/why a con-artist can get away with his scam. A good read backed by psychology experts & real-life stories of many convicted cons.

Author gives a working outline of what happens when we are the unconscious targets of a swindler. She notes how conning people has gotten easier in the age of the internet as well as how hyper-fast, hyper-competitive environments seem ripe for cons. S...  Read More

I was informed about copious amounts of biases, fallacies, psychological flaws and emotional blindness. This book is admittedly a darker part of that exploration.

Cons

Page opus could be expressed in a 20 page or less op ed piece. I seriously doubt the vips who wrote those glowing blurbs actually read this book.

How scammers try and manage to fool us

The book is about what con artists do and why we fall for them

It’s well done but the writing falls short of the best books of this nonfiction genre

Also it’s a little hard for us to learn from the book because without any emotional context all of the victims seem so easily duped that of course neither you nor i would fall for that when the author is arguing that many many of us would fall for the con artists’ tricks

Penultimate paragraph on page 71 2nd sentence “the” is duplicated

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

My only disappointment was that it was not updated to address the most successful con man of all the one who bluffed his way into the oval office

But i understand that the author probably didn’t want to wade into that particular crocodile pond

This is more like a text book type
