The stories are from varying genres. Great short stories with powerful storylines. Annually these anthologies bring us the best short stories -- and again what a delight!
The book was delivered fast and is in perfect condition- brand new, still in packaging. I give this annually as a gift and it's always well-received. This series is an american treasure!

There are a lot of family dynamics lost or threatened parentsiblingchild subjects some likeable characters some less sympathetic some mired in the past some leaving the past behind but not really

Some high points for me jai chakrabartis 34a small sacrifice for an enormous happiness34 in which nikhil wants to have a child with his lover saying 34i want our love to increase34 but only discovers the limits of their relationship leopoldine cores 34hog for sorrow34 a vividly told story of unrequited love in an unusual setting danielle evans “richard of york gave battle in vain” which though the story felt a little hollywoody was vibrantly written and engaging mary gordons 34ugly34 my favorite of the collection which gives expression to something ive felt but could never describe which is something only the best stories can do maria revas 34novostroïka34 a surreal and darkly humorous story about the frustrations of bureaucracy jess walters 34famous actor34 which plays out a common fantasy but finds the human angle

One caveat four of the stories are from the new yorker magazine so if you are subscriber you have already read about 15 of this book
