Pros & Cons
Pros
The coaching habit is one of my 'go to 'books and one i reccomend to clients interested in developing their own skill set. Michael bungay stanier says “your job is to make your coaching an everyday interaction.
Michael bungay stanier's work is uniformly delightful, engaging, and above all humane. Michael identifies so many missteps and traps - and this book is like looking in a mirror that reveals all of my worst habits when trying to lead my team.

See pages 150-152 for ways to graciously and effectively respond to those long, rambling emails. At the end of every chapter are questions that help the reader integrate and make sense of the material. It's also highlighted how often advice is given i... Read More
Cons
But the advice trap is a rehash with less content. I like michael as an author and coaching personality, but this book is simply waste.
Highlights
Quality
There is good content and there are useful tactics, plus i often loved the catchy structure.
Smart, engaging, and highly accessible, it is well researched and moves along at a nimble, entertaining pace.
This book deconstructs advice, shows not just how it's a poor move for a coach, but also how to stop doing it, and what to replace it with.
I just finished the coaching habit and immediately dug into the advice trap.
Packaging/appearance
Every chapter is packed with gems that the reader immediately put into practice.
Competitiveness
He uses comparisons of the primal lizard gut feel brain versus where we want to go and who we want to be.
I don't have much free time, but michael is worth anyone's time.
