The sim card and the smart card reader appear to work similar to each other in that i can put a smart card in and read it with a program that is designed to read sim cards

I had to use the ms unified smart card reader driver in order to actually get the smart card reader to work since the disc didnt have drivers for it and windows update was not able to find one
