The instrument is robustly constructed from a molded polymer that looks like abs. Very accurate and easy to read and recalculate.
The sun 203 altimeter works great! Purchased this to use in automobile for vacation times. Works fine for my minimal needs at a great value. The best in in non-electronic devices.

Cons
Never worked out of the box. Often 500 feet wrong (sometimes 1,500 feet in the mountains of colorado) even after calibrating many times. His assumption that this altimeter would be accurate in reflecting such small increments bespeaks his credulity.

I purchased the 203 and after a few 3 or 4 uses it stopped working correctly giving obviously incorrect elevations

I bought this altimeter because i wanted a rugged no batteries accurate altimeter

As you hike every few hours i check the pressure again reset the altimeter and repeat

If you dont know the pressure in your area then use a known altitude from your usgs map
