Pros

The blade steel on the new tool is better than on my 50 year old tool. To me that means durable and serviceable. The plane works well and is easy to adjust once you fine tune the tension screw.

Even if it takes an hour to tune up this stanley, $150. Live and learn, but this plane is decent value for the money. With a bit of a tune up they are actually pretty decent. I recommend it.

Cons

The base looks like someone went back and forth on 40 grit sand paper. The sole of the plane is also severely warped, it looks as if someone had sanded/ grinded on it unevenly.

The packaging for the plane is labeled made in mexico. No stamped country of origin identifiers on the body of the plane. Compared to my 25-year-old low angle stanley, the new version is shoddy and inferior. The plane i received is lower quality then ... Read More

Solid brass adjustment knobs on the new tool vs

Heavy duty and very easy to use

On the bright side honing the iron takes less than 5 minutes once the bevels are established

The newer plane appears to have been finished in a surface grinder that has a very coarse stone

Price

Value wise i am happy with it

Anyway this little stanley is an awesome little plane for the price and i recommend it

That being said these are 30 and no amount of work you do will get them to be a veritas or lie nielsen that cost almost 10 times as much

I know some of the experts on here dont like the state that it came in but right out of the box it can produce decent shavings

As it comes out of the box id say its probably worth 2 or 3 stars but thats not being totally fair with the competition of these planes
