Pros & Cons

Pros

Very sharp and cut through white oak effortlessly. Sharp, long lasting and in comparison, really worth the price.

Cons

Worst experience with a drill or router bit in 35 years of woodworking. Tried to drill the 2-7/8” hole in end grain birds eye maple. Chipped violently.

This bit is more of a paddle bit, specifically a crowned paddle. If you look closely at the cutting edge there are cutting leads on the outside edges. Find another large forster bit for your money.

This is not a 40mm bit, it is 1-5/8. It is clearly labeled by the manufacturer on the package but then relabeled with a sticker by distributor as 40mm. The 8mm bit i received is a * bit.

Quality

Im impressed with the quality of the product has me believing it will last long with careful use

Good guides to keep holes perfectly cylindrical

It’s tungsten carbide and it went through bamboo without splintering with no effort at all

Used it multiply times and it is still sharp

Price

This is a really good forstner bit and its a great value

Have not used it enough to determine longevity or value for the money

Shipping

Item arrived quickly and was exactly as expected

Competitiveness

I tried some of the other major brands on the market and broke two of them in on the first use

I’m sure as with many lowertier priced tools cutting edge durability is probably potentially less longterm

Really sharp perfect circle better if used on a drill press bottom really flat i have an 8 pieces kit but was missing this size reasonable price

The only thing that i have an issue with is the outside cutters go in deeper than the flat and it would create problems if my tolerances were very tight but in this case they are not but it would be an issue for someone whos tolerances are tight

Purchased because i don’t have a full set of forstners and needed to create precise sized holes for led lamp install in vinyl railing

Ended up using it to bore holes in twoby lumber while building balance of deck

But this has made me reconsider by methodology

This bit produced an accurate 18mm hole in red oak with smooth sides but i was put off by the roughness of the cut as i was boring through the wood

Luckily i was using a drill press and my wood sample was locked down
