Pros & Cons
Pros
Polishing is time-consuming as one would expect. It sands good but be sure to use high grit sand paper and soapy water. Going up to 10000 grit makes it shine up really nice. Presto pasta brass looks pretty good. I think if i had a dremel with polishin... Read More
It creates sturdy-feeling, smooth prints on my wanhao plus fff printer. The raw print is obviously heavier than other materials, and the surface is a cool uber matte. Prints very smoothly.
The protopasta 3d printer filament is great for rusting trinkets. The filament is wound nicely on the reel, and the prints are beautiful. Stick the end of the filament into the corrugated spool openings when storing.
The material is very abrasive, highly recommended using a nozzle. Highly recommend getting a couple of harden nozzles.
The parts weigh much more than the average pla or abs print, but feel significantly more substantial than a regular pla part.
Cons
Proto-pasta filament is very brittle and has less strength than regular pla. This is the only filament i have tried that gets stuck in my ptfe tubing.
Highlights
Quality
I love all of it for functional do it yourself reverse engineering of crafts and art and mechanical engineering
6mm hardened steel nozzle and ages well with vinegar and salt
Spray the mix and within seconds it starts to visibly rust
Extremely solid print out of my ender 5 s1
Price
That said i am really happy with this stuff i just wish it wasn’t so expensive
I guess it is a little pricey but not bad for a specialty pla
While the extra weight is nice a miss print can cost real
Shipping
I bought this from microcenter because amazon missed their delivery date
Packaging/appearance
Came packaged in a resealable ziplock wound perfectly on the spool dry as a bone
The roll i received weighed in at 595 grams including spool and was vacuum packed with desiccant
Competitiveness
Mechanical strength is better than pure pla
Another word of advise adjust your support threshold angle a little bit more than standard pla
